This week we are taking a look at how to count in ASL (American Sign Language). You would think that counting in ASL would just be like counting to ten using your fingers but its actually not. For example, when you represent three it matters what three fingers you hold up because depending on the three it could either mean three, six, seven, eight, or nine! This is why it is important to learn which sign means which number. I found this video to be super, super helpful as well as this chart.

Once I found the Learn How to Sign You Tube page I have started going back through my old posts and adding in resources from their page and when I went to look for counting resources I found two amazing videos How to Sign Numbers in ASL | Ultimate Guide which is more basic information, then the other one is Counting from 0 to 1 Billion in ASL, this one I think would just be a fun resource to give to kids because big numbers are really exciting to them.

What did I learn?

This week it was so cool to learn about how to sign all the different ways you sign the numbers just 1-10 because honestly I thought it would be the same as how we count on our hands but it is completely different and you need to be super definitive with the signs and your hands positions.
