Hey Everyone,

So, this is my first week of my Free Inquiry Project, this is my blog page where I am going to keep updates, resources, and my findings on my topic. For this project I have decided to learn ASL, which stands for American Sign Language. I am going to look at it in couple various aspects like how to use and apply it to the classroom, what benefits come from using different forms of communication besides just verbal and work on growing my own abilities!

The reason I chose ASL for my topic of inquiry is I work with adults with diveresablilities, and sometimes when they are non-verbal, they will use signs to communicate but there is a downfall because sometimes people will make up their own signs and then they can no longer effectively communicate with others. If we incorporated basic ASL into the classroom, it would help create a more inclusive classroom and teach the kids a second language.

Over the next several weeks I will start with learning the alphabet and how to spell my name, then I will learn numbers 1-10 and create a number line, then I will learn different sayings and words that can be used in everyday contexts, then I will learn animals, and lastly I will learn the signs to a song that promotes inclusivity.

If you want to learn about ASL and the essential basics of it check out this video on the Learn How to Sign YouTube page.
